ABOUT ME

Often times it seems like your teachers know more about you than you do about them.  Let's change that!

For the last 7 years, I have taught high school science in the classroom. Science is simply math applied to the real world.  Math helps us do things like launch rockets, build bridges,  Make Music, Make Movies, and much more.

I am well practiced in using math.  Soon you will be too!

My Philosophy

I believe a quality teacher must have personal goals and carefully articulated convictions in which to guide him or her.  The following are my guiding principles.  They include influence from my professional programs, my colleagues, my family and my own personal exploration.

I believe in fostering true relationships with my students and colleagues

I work to know and defend the disenfranchised and the ill-equipped

I am a liaison and facilitator rather than a dispenser of knowledge

I am not afraid to takes risks in order to benefit my students or my own learning

I work to build communication and critical analysis skills in the classroom

I involve myself in the school community and help the school involve itself in community

I let sustainability drive my decisions and usage of resources

I seek out and utilize research-based Best Practices in the pursuit of excellence

I believe that education is a practice just as we consider medicine a practice.  As with students, the quality teacher must always be reflective, and always seeking out new tools and strategies to benefit the learner.

My Life

I grew up and went to school in Forest Grove, Oregon.  After graduating at OSU, I moved to Portland before earning a teaching license at PSU. I have lived in Baker City Oregon with my beautiful wife Angela for the last three years.

I love Oregon, and try to experience as much as it has to offer by cycling, running, backpacking, and skiing.
